Police say the rape accusation of the former Spruce Creek High School staffer was unfounded, and now she faces two misdemeanor charges of her own.
The ex-teacher who accused four former Spruce Creek High School football players of drugging and raping her in 2018 has been charged with giving false information to the police and offering alcohol to a minor.
Brianna Walker, who was an athletic trainer at the Port Orange school and was 23 at the time of the sexual encounter, pleaded not guilty to both of the misdemeanor charges. Walker was not arrested or booked into jail. A trial date is set for later this month.
Walker’s New Smyrna Beach attorney, Mary Jane Nettles, said Friday that her client denies the allegations that there was criminal activity and plans to fight charges.
It’s the latest in what has proven to be a complex saga.
On May 30, 2018, two 18-year-old and two 17-year-old football players went to Walker’s home and engaged in group sex, according to police reports.
Two days later, Walker went to New Smyrna Beach police and claimed she was drugged and raped. She was hazy on some of the details, but told police she did not consent to having sex with all four players. She was unsure if she consented to having sex with one of the players.
A few days after that, Walker resigned from her position at Spruce Creek High School. She now lives in St. Paul, Minnesota.
Investigators found that Walker’s toxicology report was negative for any date-rape drugs, and that she had an alleged history of flirtatious behavior toward students. They called the sex consensual, but continued to investigate other possible crimes that occurred that night.
Reports show that Walker told police she had already had two alcoholic drinks when the players arrived at her home on May 30, and she had a third while they were there.
She admitted to allowing “juveniles to partake in alcoholic consumption provided by her,” the police report stated. She did not know how much the players drank.
All four of the boys told police that Walker offered them alcohol, but they did not partake.
Of the four boys, only one’s mother wished to pursue criminal charges against Walker.
