Dozens of homeless residents who have been living in an encampment in northwest Miami-Dade have to find somewhere else to live after the Florida Department of Health deemed the area a sanitary nuisance.

People who have been camped out for months along Northwest 48th Street and 36th Avenue, in Brownsville, were given the notice on May 30 and have until Thursday at midnight to move, or else they will face criminal charges.

But many of them are convicted sex offenders, who are barred from living within 2,500 feet of a school, which seriously limits where they can live.

The Miami-Dade County Homeless Trust have been out in the area to help people find housing or a steady job.

Homeless Sex Offenders Face Eviction in Brownsville

Miami-Dade County has put dozens of homeless sex offenders on notice to leave a certain area in Brownsville. NBC 6's Laura Rodriguez reports.

"We're not giving anybody a free lunch, we will help get them situated, we will help get them help, but they need to help themselves and that means you have to look for a job and housing and you have to stay employed and paying rent," said Ron Book of the Homeless Trust.
