Dear Fellow Advocates,
In the spirit of unifying our voices and raising awareness about the harm caused to families by the Sexual Offense Registry (SORNA), CAUTIONclick is urging families and friends to join our
CALL TO ACTION. We are asking all family members and friends to flood the DOJ comment line the week of July 4th. CALL Attorney General Garland and leave your message on the DOJ comment line:
Department Comment Line: 202 353 1555.
The script below is prepared to ensure that our voices send a consistent and undeniable message:
“Hello, my name is XXXX and I am calling to urge the Attorney General to stop the harm that the Sexual Offense Registry (SORNA) causes our families. Currently there are approximately 950,000 registrants in the US, which translates to 2,000,000 or more family members being negatively impacted by the registry. These laws make it almost impossible for registrants to find housing and employment, to reconnect with their families and to freely travel. Families of registrants are placed under the same strict housing restrictions. These crippling rules continue for decades and sometimes for life. Children of registrants experience bullying, anxiety, depression, anger, loneliness, and fear.
Stop hurting our families. Denying registrants the tools to effectively become productive citizens after they have paid their debt to society is Un-American. Abolish the Registry!
Thank you for joining this fight. To personalize your message, you may wish to add a very brief statement about how having a loved one on the registry has negatively affected your family. You can also use this script to call or write to your state and local officials.
Correspondence to the Department, including the Attorney General, may be sent via comment form at:
