CARE GROUP MEETING

  • 19 Jan 2019
  • 3:30 PM - 4:50 PM
  • Columbia Public Library

Our support group is made up of normal people living under extraordinary circumstances. Some of the members are on the registry, while others are support such as wives, boyfriends, girlfriends, family members and so forth. We are not therapist, lawyers, clergy, or in any way trying to claim we can solve individual problems. We all have one main thing in common. The registry has impacted our lives in some way.  The first part of the meeting we encourage people to share successes and hardships. We also spend a little time getting to know each other. There is no requirement to speak, what is said is held in confidence and does not leave the meeting. The speaker only shares what they wish to. Generally, we take a short break after this.

The second part we discuss up-coming events. These vary. It may be a trip to the State Capitol or a convention. We have had two conventions in Saint Louis already and a third is being planned. We will definitely discuss the third convention. I have been to the first and second and the conventions were worth it. Another topic is Advocacy, how do we send our message and who do we tell.  We brainstorm and send our ideas and suggestions to the board of directors.

Our ultimate goal is to abolish the registry. If we bond together with enough voices we will be heard. That is how Senate Bill 655 got passed. In the meantime, we lift each other up and support each other to help make sure we live the best life we can.

I hope this wasn't too long. I believe we can have a good group if we can get enough people to participate. I only ask that people try to attend
